In an informal conversation about some cultural productions, singer Wanessa Camargo suggested that others confined to BBB 24 (Globo) read the book “A Sociedade do Espetáculo”, by Frenchman Guy Debord. And because of this, internet searches for information and even summaries of this work spiked, according to Google Trends.
The book was published in 1967 by the Marxist writer and criticizes consumption, society and capitalism. The title was one of the mottos of the May 1968 movement in France.
“There is a book, ‘The Society of the Spectacle’. Read this book so you understand all the politics behind it, there is a genuine interest from people who are in charge of not enriching the culture of a people, but rather dumbing it down” , that’s what Wanessa said in the chat.
On social media, many people were surprised by the advice given by Zezé Di Camargo’s daughter. “From the forgotten pop anthems to the new vegan personality. From the video of Rita Lee praising her to the quote from ‘The Society of the Spectacle’. I’m developing a certain obsession with Wanessa”, said a follower.
“Wanessa Camargo talking about the book ‘A Sociedade do Espetáculo’. I Googled it, liked it and already bought it. That’s a good influencer”, wrote another follower.
