Paolla Oliveira responds to criticism of her body and says that women have folds: ‘Sorry to break this news’

Paolla Oliveira, 41, spoke to Fantástico (Globo) about the criticism she received regarding her body in recent weeks on the internet. The comments began on December 20, when the actress’ name ended up on Twitter’s list of most talked about topics after she participated in an event at the Grande Rio court, the samba school where she is the drum queen.

For some internet users, she had “gained weight” and “lost her shape”; still others completed by saying that “age comes to everyone”. On the other hand, many people responded by saying that Paolla has a “real” body and that they would love to reach her age with a similar body. The debate took over the internet, with many people pointing out the misogyny and fatphobia of the comments.

On Sunday, the actress spoke about the aesthetic pressure exerted on a woman’s body and how this increases during the Carnival period. “Carnival body is mine, yours, whoever is watching us,” she said. “It’s the famous royal body, which everyone is.”

In a call for the program, published on social media, she and reporter Ana Carolina Raimundi mention that women, contrary to what many people seem to believe, have pores, cellulite, expression lines and folds. “It’s a good thing if we didn’t sit down, we wouldn’t move”, laughs Paolla.

“It’s big news, people weren’t prepared for it,” says the journalist. “I’m sorry to have to break this news”, jokes the actress, who still takes it in stride when she hears the comment about how people have the courage to make any criticism of her body: “We also have the courage to do some things; leave that to us (laughs).”
