Jodie Foster hid her career from her children: ‘They thought I worked in construction’

by

Jodie Foster, 61, is one of the most famous Hollywood actresses in the world and has two Oscars on her shelf at home. But throughout their childhood, Charles and Christopher, two sons (now adults), thought that her mother worked in construction throughout her childhood.

She explained that she hid what she really did from her children because she didn’t want it to impact the way they viewed their mother. “I think I just wanted them to not know me that way, as an actress. I wanted them to know me as their mother, the person who went out to work,” Jodie explained on ABC’s ‘The View’.

The actress and director even took her eldest son Charles, currently 25 years old, to the film set a few times when he was very little, around three years old, but she told him that, in fact, she worked behind the scenes at the recording.

“I took him to the set one day and bought him a plastic tool belt and other related toys. And for many years he thought I worked in construction,” he revealed.

Today, of course, they both know the truth, but Jodie said that “they have no interest” in watching her films with her. “There are a few films that I will never show them because I worry about what will be shown”, joked the actress, protagonist of the fourth season of the HBO series “True Detective”.

Jodie Foster began her career when she was still a teenager. She won the Oscar for Best Actress for ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ (1991) and ‘The Accused’ (1988), and has two nominations: for ‘Taxi Driver’ (1977) and ‘Nell’ (1994).
