Dimitris Papaioannou’s “INK” returns for five performances at the Athens Concert Hall, on April 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26, after a full year of world tour. The show, adored by audiences and critics around the world, will conclude its international tour at the renovated historic Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, immediately after the performances in Athens. The pre-sale for the Megaros shows starts on February 1, 2024.
“I made a very dark work at a time in my life when I was flooded with love and light. INK does not tell a story but is a dream within a dream…” stated Dimitris Papaioannou at the press conference that had taken place in December 2022 at Megaros on the occasion of his new production. “It’s a game for two. A play about desire, as Lina Nikolakopoulou’s verse says “for wild desire”. For the mania associated with youth and beauty. An evangelization that, as we all know, ends with a crucifixion. The truth is, of course, that when you share a project with the world, it starts to mean a thousand and two other things together, but at this stage I think he is dealing with this obsession,” he had said.
“INK” is a work for two created and performed by D. Papaioannou himself with the German dancer Suka Horn whom he distinguished from their collaboration in “Transverse Orientation”. A work flooded with water, testing body and soul, a daring immersion in the complexities of human desire that was honored in Italy with the Ubu Award 2020-21.
“INK” in its first version started in 2021 as a commission and co-production of Torinodanza Festival / Teatro Stabile di Torino – Teatro Nazionale + Fondazione I Teatri / Festival Aperto – Reggio Emilia. The completion of the project and the INK world tour are co-produced by Biennale de la Danse de Lyon 2023, Sadler’s Wells London, Athens Concert Hall and are held with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
The show has already been performed to more than 60,000 viewers in 15 countries and has been praised by critics: “From the moment the curtain opens, the show holds the audience’s breath” ( Campadidanza Dance Magazine), “Papaioannou is one of the greatest creators of scenic images of our time”, “The INK expands the limits of the theater” (Le Devoir), “A spectacle that defies definitions” (Liminateatri), “Perverse, anarchic and seductive” (ABC Sevilla), “A perpetual search for the sublime” (El PaÃs).
