“The first film received negative reviews and we had to shoot two more! It was strange to act in a film that was receiving criticism,” the actor said
Ewan McGregor revealed that he initially did not want to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in the “Star Wars” and admitted: “I didn’t think it had anything to do with me.”
The Scottish actor said he was preparing to take on another film role before appearing in the “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999”.
“I thought, at the time, I was a Danny Boyle actor. The movie “The Beach” was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t trivial. I asked a lot of people for advice.” explained the actor, who was attending the Gothenburg Film Festival according to Variety.
“I’m happy to be that character for a lot of people, but when those Star Wars movies came out, they weren’t popular. It was difficult. The first film received negative reviews and we had to shoot two more! It was strange to be in a film that was receiving criticism.”
In the mid-1990s, when McGregor was cast in the George Lucas sci-fi series, he was most famous for his collaborations with British director Danny Boyle, the films ‘Trainspotting’ and ‘A Life Less Ordinary’.
Ewan McGregor was “very reluctant” to play Obi-Wan Kenobi and remembers the #StarWars prequels being “so disliked.”
“That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.” https://t.co/f2hgMuX4zQ

In the 2000 adventure film The Beach, directed by Boyle, McGregor was originally cast as the lead before he was eventually replaced by Leonardo DiCaprio. McGregor was introduced to acting by watching his uncle, Dennis Lawson.
“I got to see him first in the theater, a huge experience for a kid, and then on TV. Then he participated in a movie called “Star Wars”. He excited us.”
Despite rumours, it was not at that moment that he decided to become an actor. “My uncle is still amazed that ‘Star Wars’ had such an impact. I wanted to be like him, but he also moved me deeply. I told him when I was 9 and he said, ‘Come back to me when you grow up,'” she noted.
The actor emphasized that he enjoyed the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series he was a part of but said that there is a lot going on at Disney and there are no talks about a second season yet.
“I’d love to do season two, but there’s no discussion yet,” McGregor said.
