This lake is located at an altitude of 1,870 meters and maintains an almost constant level throughout the year
The proud one Tiredor otherwise the history Velvet, rises steeply in the center of Roumeli, impressing with its high lofty peaks, the beautiful alpine zone and its dense fir forests. The mountain is, in a way, the natural border between northern and southern Greece, as well as the border between eastern and western Central Greece. The name Tymfristos is ancient and comes from the word mound, while in historical reports it also appears with the variants Tefrastos and Tyfristos, which makes it possible that the name also derives from the word tephras. The name Velouhi is essentially the name of the highest peak of Timphristos by which the mountain is often referred to. The word Veluhi is medieval, probably of Slavic origin and means “white mountain”. The mountain is located in the east of the prefecture of Evrytania on the border with Fthiotida and is the entrance to Agrafa and South Pindos. It is a relatively circular massif with a direction from west to east and an area of up to 40,000 acres. Tymfristos, although relatively small in size, is the third highest mountain in Central Greece and its highest peak is Velouhi or High Peak (2,312 m.). From a geological point of view, the mountain is dominated by limestone followed by flysch. It is a mountain characterized by deep ravines and a dense hydrographic network with many springs and streams. This is where they come from Sperchios and Karpenisiotis but also many smaller rivers and streams.
To the west of the ridge, at an altitude of 1,870 m and close to the ski resort, one is located small dragon lake, while Karpenisi, the capital of Evrytania, is built at the southern foot of the mountain. This lake keeps its level almost constant throughout the year. This is due to the melting of the snow that covers the surrounding area, which sometimes lasts until June, but also to the existence of underground springs. This small pond is used by nomadic herders to quench the thirst of their animals which they bring in the summer months to feed on the rich pastures that form after the winter.
