The National Defense sector must undergo a huge reform because the world is changing, the world is changing. And the existence of a solid defense mechanism is a condition of national survival. This was emphasized, among others, by Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias, in his speech at the cutting of the New Year’s pie of the DEEP Larisa of N.D. and ONNED of Larisa, yesterday, Saturday, February 3.

“It doesn’t make any sense what you have inside a house if you can’t keep anyone who tries it out the door. If anyone who wants to enter your house can at any time open the door and enter, whatever you do inside the house is of no importance,” he emphasized.

For weapons systems, he pointed out that “next to the F-16 Vipers we already have, next to the Rafales we already have, the best aircraft in the region, we will add the most modern weapon that any air force in the world has, the F-35, the most modern there is.”

“I must,” he continued. “to build the most powerful Navy we’ve ever had. And we do this by planning for tomorrow. We will take the three brilliant Belharra frigates, the most modern ships in the Mediterranean. But we are also planning how we will build the frigate that will get us into the next century and we will build it in Greece and give jobs and surplus value to our own shipbuilding industry.”

“And”, he added, “we have to move to new systems, of less value, but of greater capability. Greece cannot not manufacture drones”.

“And we will build vehicles not only in the air, but also in the sea and under the sea. We will completely change the scene,” he added.

Regarding the living conditions of the Armed Forces personnel, he stated that “by express order of the prime minister, we are starting a program to build houses throughout Greece for the Armed Forces personnel”.

“We start with 350 houses and 100 million euros. But we will complete this program in 2030, so that everyone who serves in the Greek Armed Forces, our permanent officers, will have a decent residence to allow everyone to have a decent standard of living” explained the Minister of National Defense.

Regarding the tenure, he pointed out the need to change, he continued: “Not to reduce it. Let’s change it, so that the draftee, the reservist, is actually trained, not just standing guard and doing chores. To acquire digital skills, to become a real combat “tool” for the Greek army”.
