A discussion with the Artistic Directors and members of the administration of the Municipal Regional Theaters – DIPETHE was held today (7/2) by the Deputy Minister of Culture Christos Dimas, in view of the amendment and signing of their new programming contract.

In the teleconference, in which the General Secretary of Contemporary Culture, Eleni Doundoulakis, as well as officials, participated, the general and individual issues/requests, mainly of an economic and administrative nature, were raised by DIPETHE, while proposals were also developed for their more effective cooperation with the local self-government and the Ministry of Culture.

In particular, as stated in the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dimas, responding to the corresponding requests of DIPETHE, referred to the following:

-In consultation with the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, an increase in the subsidy of the Ministry of Culture by an amount that exceeds 14%, in each DIPETHE for 2024, compared to 2023.

-Acceptance of the request for a provision in the programming contract that it is necessary to employ professional actors from DIPETHE, i.e. graduates of a Drama School recognized by the Ministry of Education or members of the Greek Actors Association.

-The auxiliary role of the Ministry of Education and Culture to the DIPETHE makes it self-evident the obligation to have an artistic director in each of them.

-The Ministry of Education supports the provision of a three-year term for artistic directors, the possibility of renewing it once, as well as the timely announcement of their positions.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Christos Dimas, stated: “The Ministry of Culture supports the Municipal Regional Theaters and Culture bodies in the region. We also seek, in addition to financial support, the promotion of best practices for the most effective and essential cooperation of theater organizations with local government and the competent bodies».

The General Secretary of Contemporary Culture, Eleni Doundoulaki, emphasized that: “Having served the institution of DIPETHE as Artistic Director of DIPETHE Roumelis and recognizing the need to resolve perennial issues concerning their orderly and productive operation, I am optimistic after today’s teleconference as the Ministry of Culture is actively present. We are in open dialogue with the theater organizations themselves and seek, in cooperation with local government bodies, to contribute substantially to the support and strengthening of the institution at every level».
