Mariah Carey attended to 66th Grammy Awards even giving the first prize of the evening. However, severe thunderstorms in Los Angeles nearly prevented the famous singer from attending the spectacular music celebration held at the Crypto.com Arena, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah.

“It was about 4:45 p.m. and we were going live in 15 minutes,” producer Ben Winston said on the “Rolling Stone Music Now” podcast, and talent overseeing associate producer Patrick Menton says: “We’re not sure SZA will make it back in time for her performance – she went to a hotel to get ready and can’t come back. Burna Boy got stuck in traffic, he might not make it. And you certainly won’t have Mariah Carey, Kacey Musgraves, Christina Aguilera and Lizzo. They are all stuck in traffic.”

With time running out, Grammy producers took a golf cart and went to pick up Carey from her car. Ben added that at the same time, “four people were running around with umbrellas to make sure he didn’t get so wet that he couldn’t get on stage.”

“We brought her in in a golf cart driving in the opposite direction of the freeway,” he added.

Finally, the star was on time and presented Miley Cyrus with the award for “Best Pop Solo Performance” who, in her acceptance speech, said she almost missed that ceremony as well, as reported by E!News .

“I just got stuck in traffic because of the rain and I thought I was going to lose this moment. And if I lost the award, that’s fine, but not Mariah Carey,” said Cyrus.
