The aim is to promote the Greek language and Greek culture in Turin, but also in Europe.
In the framework of the World Day of the Greek Language on February 9, the Honorary Consulate General of Greece in Turin, in collaboration with the Italo-Hellenic Organization for Education “microkosmos” is organizing a three-day event entitled “From A to Z” which started yesterday February 8 and will last until the 10th of the month with the aim of promoting the Greek language and Greek culture in Turin, but also in Europe.
Turin is the only European city to dress in blue and white, after the Mole Antonelliana was photographed in the colors of the Greek flag, thus reflecting the important cooperation between Italy and Greece in the field of culture and education. At the same time, at the top of this emblematic monument, the Greek letter “Ï€” is displayed, symbolizing the contribution of the Greek language to science, mathematics and human thought.
For the first time, all the three-day events will be fully covered by interpretation in Greek and Italian Sign Language.

February 8
Illumination of the Mole Antonelliana:
The emblematic monument of Turin will be illuminated in the colors of the Greek flag and the Greek letter “Ï€” will be displayed on top of it, highlighting the value of this Greek letter in the development of mathematics and science in general.
February 9
11:00: Hidden treasure hunt – Find Greece in Turin: Starting from the Honorary Consulate General of Greece in Turin, the participants will have the opportunity to explore the center of Turin and discover the traces of Greece in the city. One of the stations of the hunt will be the statue of the goddess Athena by Vincenzo Vela, in the courtyard of the Rectorate of the University of Turin, which is one of the main symbols of the Greek element in Turin.

15:30: “O” like opera: A reading of contemporary poetry inspired by the human and artistic essence of Maria Callas. The event will be prefaced by Professor Rocco Quaglia (from the Department of Psychology of the University of Turin) and Dr. Francesca GM Gastaldi (from the Department of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the University of Turin). In addition to the poets who will read their works, there will be a presentation by Dr. Camillo Costantini (from the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Turin) entitled “The dance of a letter between mathematics and poetry”.

February 10

15:30: Traditional Greek dances – The “Chorò Sagapò” dance group of the Piedmont-Greece Association “Santorre di Santarosa” will present traditional Greek dances in Piazza Castello. A structure depicting the majestic Caryatids of the Acropolis will be exhibited next to the space that will be allocated for the dances and will act as a photographic backdrop for the public.

18:00: Parenting school – Greek parents in Turin will have the opportunity to meet and talk with psychologist George Krikris about all the issues that concern them and their children’s lives in a foreign country.

20:30: Byzantine music concert – There will be a Byzantine Music concert by the “Irini Pasi Ensemble” in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.

Decorations and advertising material on the theme of the Greek alphabet: In collaboration with the Union of Merchants and Shopkeepers and with educational institutions of the city of Turin, stickers depicting letters of the Greek alphabet will be placed at the entrances of shops and schools.
Tactile alphabet: e-Nable Greece designed a 3D tactile alphabet with 24 words of Greek origin used in Italian and international scientific terminology. The work is suitable for people with visual impairments and will be exhibited at the headquarters of the “microkosmos” organization.
As a souvenir of the World Day of the Greek Language, brooches in the shape of Greek letters, specially designed by the jewelry designer Maria Fotopoulou, will be available.
Infopoint at the headquarters of the Italo-Greek Cultural Organization for Education “microkosmos” – and the Piedmont-Greece Association “Santorre di Santarosa” (February 9): information on activities, courses, youth exchanges and other non-formal learning initiatives.
There will be interpretation in Greek Sign Language for the entire three-day event by Hands Up and in Italian Sign Language by the Institute of the Deaf of Turin.
