German track and field star Alica Schmidt, who has been described as the ‘world’s sexiest athlete’, says she turned down a hugely lucrative sponsorship deal from a ‘big-name’ sponsor, despite barely making any money from her sport.
The 25-year-old athlete, who has amassed millions of followers on social media, says she recently turned down a sponsorship that would have earned her thousands of dollars because she didn’t want to enter “in molds” that the trade agreement in question would require.
“Two months ago I received an offer from a well-known and large brand. But I didn’t feel like the product expressed me 100%Schmidt said on the OMR podcast according to German newspaper Bild.
“I wasn’t comfortable with that. The amount was mid to high six figures. It was about a campaign».
Schmidt has income from social media, other sponsors, partnerships, she even receives a small salary as a member of the German national team.
In October, it revealed that national team athletes are paid about $739 a month in sponsorship deals that are streamlined through Sporthilfe, the German sports foundation that provides financial support to the country’s top athletes.
