The desire to use his privileged position to help others was always present in his life Christian Bale.

The Welsh-born actor, 50, experienced it at home, where he watched his father, David Bale, protest and shout at Margaret Thatcher. “As a kid I didn’t really understand what he did, but I loved him and admired the way he did everything for others”he recalls.

Aside from donating money to causes here and there, the famous actor has been directly involved with one, creating a community for foster children where siblings can stay together instead of being separated. The project is a kind of small village in Palmdale, California, in which he will invest 22 million dollars. The project work will not be completed before 2025.

Adjacent to a park and close to a shopping district, this small village, which will include a dozen homes, two transitional housing studios and a community center, is located in Palmdale, a city of about 150,000 people located 60 miles north of Los Angeles , and will be the first of its kind in California.

The project took shape within an organization called Together in California, which Bale created with Tim McCormick, who was the executive director of Children’s Villages in the United States for nearly two decades.

“Imagine the absolute pain and trauma of losing your parents or being taken from your parents and then losing your siblings too,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter during the opening ceremony. “I hope this village will be the first of many and I hope people will support our endeavour. These are our children and we must help our children”the actor added.

Among the investors are a number of “generous donors”, including members of the Bale family, but also his agent, Patrick Whitesell (ex-husband of Lauren Sanchez, now fiancee of Jeff Bezos) and other Hollywood stars, such as Leonardo DiCaprio.

“Before I started doing this, I used to write checks for various charities that I support around the world, and they are great, and I will continue to do that. But I want to do more. I want my kids to be more involved. We will be able to come and really see the difference we can make in children’s lives. This is simply priceless”said Bale, who plans for this to be just the first of his villages and to create more in California and elsewhere in the country.
