English director, producer and screenwriter won Best Director for ‘Oppenheimer’
Christopher Nolan acknowledged the people who fought for nuclear disarmament in his speech, at the 77th British Academy of Film and Television Arts – BAFTA Awards.
The English director, producer and screenwriter won Best Director for Oppenheimer for Robert J. Oppenheimer, the American physicist who played a key role in the creation of the atomic bomb in World War II.
Often called “the father of the atomic bomb,” Oppenheimer was the creator of the nuclear weapons used in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. It was the only time nuclear weapons were used in armed conflict in human history.
Nolan took to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London to accept his award and referred to the end of his film, in which the lead character expresses fear that his work may not have saved the world, but hastened its end. . “I just want to say that our film ends on what I think was necessary, a dramatic note of despair,” he said.
