You should never change seats on the plane without first asking the crew, warns a flight attendant. And the reason is very serious.
American Airlines flight attendant Serenity Haley posted a video on TikTok explaining that such a simple move could have tragic consequences.
“Here’s a quick rundown of the planes you did not know and why you should not change your seat without asking a flight attendant,” he said.
“Before taking off, we always do what is called ‘weight and balance’, just to make sure the weight is well (distributed) on the plane and the balance is okay to take off.”
“So when you change your position, you are actually changing the balance of the plane. “That’s why you should always ask before you do it, for better or for worse,” he explained.
Answering the questions of her followers, Haley said that the flight attendants allow the changes of positions if there are empty seats.
One pilot has even revealed a scary incident that a member of his crew was called upon to face when passengers changed seats before the flight.
“Four passengers sat in front of the seats assigned to them before take-off. “My co-pilot was flying the plane and had problems when he turned the plane: It was very heavy,” he explained.
“It was a very critical situation, because the runway was too short and they could not stop the plane,” he added.
However, the best place to sit on the plane, according to flight attendants, is in the back.
