The 90-year-old British actor Sir Michael Caine is undoubtedly one of the most famous actors today, known for his unforgettable work in various projects such as Dressed to Kill and The Dark Knight Trilogy among many others.

His undeniable acting talent was soon recognised, and in Britain they knew he was going to become a big name in the film industry. An interesting encounter occurred when Kane visited America for the first time to promote his blockbuster film Alfie, which established him as a prominent actor in the US as well.

As the British actor himself narrates, he was staying all alone in a luxury hotel in the US suffering unbearably, when he arrived by helicopter John Wayne, wearing his iconic cowboy hat.

According to Kane, Wayne congratulated the then-rising British actor and gave him some important advice.

Wayne told him:You are going to be a star my son. But if you want to stay, remember the following: Speak low, speak slowly and don’t say much”. And if that sounds like relatively… conventional advice to a rising star, Wayne’s other piece of advice was really weird, even though Kane thinks it’s the best advice he’s ever received!

Kane recalled: “John Wayne said: “Never wear suede shoes”, pointing to my shoes. I said, “Why not?” He said, “Because you’re going to be famous and you’re going to be in the bathroom and you’re going to curse and the guy next to you is going to turn around and recognize you and curse your shoes, kid. ”. I gave away all my suede shoes to people who were strangers.”
