The new dance performance of Iris Karayan at Thission Theater

by

After “Α dance as a dance” (2021), which was presented at the Athens Festival, Iris Karagian returns to the Thission theater (7 Tournavitou, Psyrri) with her new performance “Make any sound Make any sound move Make any sound move us” », From the 24th to the 27th of February, at 21:00.

The source of inspiration is the approach and practices of the American composer Pauline Oliveros, in particular the practice of “deep listening” (deep listening) and the collection “Sonic Meditations” (1971) which focus, among others, on sound perception, sensitivity and sharpened attention through the enhancement of hearing. Selected scores from the Oliveros archive are appropriated, mixed and act as guides of perception and activation in the show.

Singers Ioanna Paraskevopoulou, Christina Karagianni and Sotiria Koutsopetrou observe through the senses, listen to the environment, and activate their imagination, as they dive and are left in a constant flow condition. They test how they can develop an expanded awareness of how they move in space, resonate and continue.

Iris Karayan re-approaches her choreographic practice and seeks experience, expression, otherness and connection. With “Make any sound Make any sound move Make any sound move us” he suggests deepening in what we hear and see, but also in the way we connect with what is around us.

Karayan is a founding member and choreographer of the ZITA dance group. Her works have been presented at dance festivals in Greece and abroad. He was named Aerowaves Artist in 2013 with “Mothers”, and in 2020 with “Unauthorized”.

He collaborates with artists of the performing arts, cinema and visual arts, carrying out various projects. He has taught at the State School of Orchestral Art, at Rallou Manou, at the School of Fine Arts of Nafplio, University of Peloponnese, and at the Art High School and Lyceum of Gerakas.
