With the central slogan “Cinema in our language”, the Hellenic Film Center (HKC) is preparing for “Hellenic Film Day”, an event that is a celebration of Greek film designed to spread throughout the country, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 .

The invitation of the Greek Cycladic Society to the Greek public, which – as it states in its announcement – this year has also demonstrated its trust in cinematographic images that speak its language, becomes more resonant thanks to the singer Kaiti Garbi and the actor Yiannis Tsortekis, who responded in the proposal to be the ambassadors of the “Day of Greek Cinema”. Adding to their voice is the voice of the actress Maria Kallimani, vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Greek Greek Cypriot Association, who practically supports the action.

“The Greek Cycladic Society took the initiative to organize the ‘Day of Greek Cinema’ at a time when a place of culture, the cinema, is under threat throughout Europe. Its purpose is to bring Greek cinema to every city in Greece, where there is a physical space for its screening, the movie theater” notes the Greek Cycladic Society in its announcement.

All Greek films of the period 2020-23, fiction and documentaries, can be accessed with a ticket price of 3 euros thanks to this action, which is addressed to all theaters in the territory and will be subsidized with the amount of 290,000 euros. Added to this pool of films are all the works (short fiction, documentaries and animation) that were produced or supported by the special Covid-19 programs of the Ministry of Culture and the Greek Cypriot Council.
