Joost’s sad family story that inspired him to write Europapa
A few days ago, the song “Europapa”, the official participation of the Netherlands in this year’s Eurovision, was released, with the representative of the country being Joost Klein, an eccentric 26-year-old musician and rapper, particularly well-known in the Netherlands, but also in Germany.

Joost’s sad family story that inspired him to write Europapa
In 2010, at the age of 12, the singer lost his father to cancer and a year later, in 2011, his mother died suddenly of cardiac arrest. The boy was orphaned by his parents and raised by his two brothers, having since then a huge void inside him. “”Europapa” refers to a child who lost their parents and travels across Europe to find himself and tell his story,” he said. In fact, in the official video clip of “Europapa” we see the 26-year-old wandering around Europe to find where he belongs. At the end of the video clip, the happy initial mood suddenly subsides, with the singer seeing himself as a child next to his father. They look at each other and Klein tells his father that he misses him and that he followed what he was telling him, that the world has no borders. The camera then pans to a family photo of Klein and his parents, which catches fire, along with their house. In the last shot of the video clip, on a black background, the dedication is written: “From me, for my parents”.
