Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the weapons manager in the movie “Rust” where the director of photography was killed Halina Hutchins (Halyna Hutchins) by Alec Baldwin in October 2021, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

With deliberations lasting less than three hours, jurors in the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe, New Mexico announced their verdict after two weeks of testimony about gaps in the film’s filming, Variety reports.

The gunsmith faces up to 18 months in prison and her lawyer, Jason Bowles, said they would appeal. “The evidence was not sufficient for this decision,” a visibly disappointed Bowles said outside court. “There was a lot of speculation, a lot of assumptions.”

After the verdict was read, Judge Mary Marlow Sommer ordered the gunsmith to be remanded in custody.

The film’s star and co-producer Alec Baldwin also faces a manslaughter charge and will go on trial on Aug. 6, according to New Mexico court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
