Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, they talked about their nearly two-decade romance and family life, while reflecting on their move from Hollywood to Texas.

The lovely couple graces its cover “Southern Living” and “unfolded” his new reality since leaving Malibu—with sons Levi, Livingston, and daughter Vida—for more privacy in 2014.

“We were living a happy life in Malibu. We had a beautiful house that we built together. We raised our children there. I grew everything in the yard. I had bees and made my own honey”the mother of three said.

After a family crisis brought their family to Austin, Texas, Alves noticed a change in her husband’s energy and mood.

“You want to move here, don’t you?” she remembers asking him. And their dream came true… McConaughey, who was born in Uvalde, Texas and moved to Longview in 1980, admitted that the transition from Malibu to Texas was more difficult for his wife, as she has only lived in Brazil, New York and Los Angeles.

Still, she stressed that her upbringing in Brazil wasn’t much different. The couple also described some of their Texas traditions, such as attending church and how sports have become an integral part of the children’s lives.

Camila Alves and McConaughey met at Hyde nightclub in Hollywood in 2006, at the height of his fame, while she was working as a model. They married six years later in Austin, Texas, with the closest people, such as Reese Witherspoon, Kenny Chesney and Woody Harrelson, by their side.
