BBB 22: Marcelo Dourado says he was ‘ignorant’ for extolling ‘straight pride’

by

Former BBB Marcelo Dourado, 49, used social media on Wednesday (16) to apologize for extolling “heterosexual pride” and “heterosexual resistance” during his participation in Big Brother Brasil 10. edition, stated that he was “an ignorant” and that these terms should not be used – at BBB 22, participant Gustavo says he is proud to be “top straight”.

Dourado said that a video of him on BBB10 appears on the networks talking about “heterosexual pride” and “heterosexual resistance. He explained that he was in a reality show suffering psychological pressure and provocations from opponents. “But nothing erases the fact that I was a a much more ignorant person 12 years ago than I am today.”

The former BBB admitted that he did not realize that the phrase that his opponent Dicesar said that “the world is gay” was inclusive. He said that in his “limited mind” at the time he didn’t realize the importance of that for the people who are involved in this community and who are constantly victims of violence.

“The resistance belongs to minorities, and no straight person was beaten to death for their sexuality, unlike the LGBTQIA+ community. In Brazil, there are very serious repeat cases, diaries of aggression by people who are said to be different because of their sexuality.”

The former BBB said that standing against these causes goes against his family history and his legacy as a child of refugees. “In my mind, everyone should be respected equally, but in the broadest sense of the word. For us to get there, we still need a long journey of understanding and debate.”

Dourado said that his raw way may have confused the people who cheered for him on reality. “Thinking that what united us was prejudice, they suddenly confused my impetus, my will to win, my competitiveness and my somewhat harsh way with a prejudiced person, which I abhor.”

He stated that he wants distance from the people who cheered and identify with him because of prejudice. “I want positive things in my social relationships, people with empathy, who truly respect the trajectory of the other, the pain of others, of someone else, even if we don’t understand.”

The ex-BBB ended up saying that he doesn’t intend to win anyone’s friendship or sympathy with the video. “I just want to correct a historical error of what I said and recognize that my mistake could really have been interpreted as a prejudiced speech. I hope you understand.”
