Meghan Markle says she stayed away from social networks because of haters: ‘It’s not just slander, it’s cruelty’

Meghan Markle participated in a women’s conference this Friday (8), in Texas, United States, and said that she has been away from the media and, especially, social media for almost five years. The Duchess of Sussex said she decided to become more reclusive after suffering hate attacks during her pregnancy with Archie, four, and Lilibeth, two, her children from her marriage to Prince Harry.

“Most of the bullying and abuse I experienced on social media and online occurred when I was pregnant with Archie and Lilibeth, and with both of them as newborns,” she said at the beginning of her presentation on the “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women are Protagonists On and Off the Screen” with other actresses and a sociologist.

Meghan acknowledged that staying off the internet brought her better well-being and also questioned the reasons why haters attack people freely. “It’s not just slander, it’s cruelty.” She complained that many women speak badly about each other on the internet. “I can not understand”.

She then pointed to her husband Harry, who was in the audience, and said: “I’m fortunate that, among the privileges I have in my life, I have an incredible partner. My husband is a very practical father and a great supporter from me and my family. I don’t take this for granted. This is a true blessing. But a lot of people don’t have that same level of support,” the Suits actress concluded.
