Juliana Paes says she suffered a ‘public insult’ when she was canceled for supposed political exemption in 2021

It was not easy for Juliana Paes to overcome her cancellation in 2021. The controversy that became a topic throughout the country in 2021 began during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the actress began to be asked to speak out politically.

The height of the crisis happened when Juliana, who recently participated in “Renascer” in the role of Jacutinga, recorded and posted a video in which she defended non-polarization and the right to “not feel represented”.

It was a response to Samantha Schmütz. The comedian had sent her a message via WhatsApp asking her to get off the fence and take a political stand. Brazil closely followed the undeclared fight between the two and it didn’t take long for Juliana to be branded “exempt”. “Of course, I didn’t express myself in the video as I would have liked, I was in the heat of emotion,” she told the newspaper O Globo.

“My intention was to encourage a culture of peace. I couldn’t bear to see people fighting, friend fighting friend. I am, by nature, a diplomatic person. My mistake was trying to talk about debate and unity at that moment”, he stated.

Juliana said that she had never made any kind of partisan gesture to anyone. “During my public life, I didn’t raise flags here or there. I didn’t vote for Bolsonaro. I don’t feel able to understand the complexity of these partisan political environments and I have little faith. Politics, for me, is carried out in practice, in real life. I silently contribute to countless social projects. I do this role better by acting on other fronts.”

People didn’t even want to know and the actress became the target of defamatory campaigns, and ended up being cancelled. “I became the perfect target. For a long time, I was afraid to open my cell phone. I ended up outsourcing my social networks to stay away from comments. I was impressed by the places people put me… They added labels to me that never described me, I was called ‘Bolsominion'”.

The consequences were serious. “It took me a while to understand that I was depressed, I had never felt anything like that. But I started having thoughts that weren’t about life, like “what do we live for?”, “why are we here?”, “why do you mean to me?” played here? I didn’t want to come.” She then sought psychiatric help. “I took antidepressants for a while and stopped. I started therapy, which I had avoided my whole life, and I immersed myself in my physical training.”

In sessions with the therapist, he heard that he had been suffering a “public cure”. “This is a trauma. And once you go through it, you don’t come out the same person. You become stronger. Unanimity doesn’t exist. Not everyone will think I’m cute, and that’s okay.”
