Monark decides to step away from social media and quotes Orwell when criticizing YouTube

by

Podcaster Bruno Aiub, 31, better known as Monark, took to his Twitter account on Friday (18) to announce that he will take a break from the internet. The decision comes hours after YouTube suspended the monetization of its videos on the platform and prohibited it from creating a new one to circumvent the restriction.

As a result, Monark is no longer able to earn money on the platform. The measure is valid indefinitely and also includes old videos published by the presenter.

“Guys all this shit is not doing my head any good, I’m going to be off the internet for a while. See you soon,” Monark wrote on Twitter.

Hours earlier, the podcaster stated that he had become an “imperson”, quoting on the social network the writer George Orwell, author of “1984”, a book that talks about people being watched constantly. “Apparently I’ve become an imperson for committing a crime. George Orwell really predicted the future.”

In a video posted on Twitter, he said he is suffering political persecution after defending the right to have a Nazi party in Brazil and being disconnected from the Flow podcast. “They forbade me to create a new channel in order to continue my life, powerful people want to destroy me. Freedom of speech is dead,” he wrote.

Monetization is how youtubers are paid — it happens in different ways, such as views and clicks on advertisements displayed on videos.

Accompanied by the tweet, he posted the message he received from YouTube, in which the platform says it is “very important that creators use their influence responsibly — both on and off the platform”.
