In the heat of the debate on the revision of the quota law in higher education this year, the Business Initiative for Racial Equality, which brings together dozens of Brazilian and multinational companies, should intensify support for the renewal of quotas.
Raphael Vicente, coordinator of the Initiative, says that, this year, the action of companies that declare themselves to be anti-racist should go beyond campaigns on social networks and move towards a firmer position in the face of this debate.
“In order to defend inclusion and racial diversity, it is necessary to understand the affirmative action program, which is a proven effective measure. It is what we have and it is what is causing evolution over time. in Brazil in the last 20 to 30 years”, says Vicente.
On Tuesday (22), the Zumbi dos Palmares University will open a debate on the bill that postpones from 2022 to 2062 the revision of the law that in 2012 defined the rules for the admission of blacks, indigenous people and people with disabilities to the public higher education institutions in Brazil.
The proposal, which is being processed on an urgent basis, will be discussed by federal deputies Carlos Zarattini (PT-SP), one of the proponents, and the rapporteur Bira do Pindaré (PSB-MA).
On the occasion, an evaluation report will be delivered by the special commission of the Cotas Sim movement.
