The doll and talented Sebastian Stan will play the former US President Donald Trump in his youth, in award-winning Iranian director Ali Abbasi’s new film, “The Apprentice“.

He is joined by the Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Strong in the role of infamous lawyer Roy Cohn, who was his mentor in the early years of his career.

The film will be among this year’s productions in its competition section Cannes Film Festival malong with Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis”, David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds” and Giorgos Lanthimos’ film “Kinds of Kindness”.

Immediately after the announcement of the festival, it was made public and the first snapshot of Sebastian Stan as Trumpwho wears an off-white suit and sits in the back of a car on the phone with his “mentor” played by Jeremy Strong.

The case

The film written by Gabriel Sherman (Gabe Sherman) is described as “an exploration of power and ambition in a world of corruption and deception. It focuses on Trump’s efforts to build his New York real estate empire in the 1970s and 1980s, while also examining his relationship with Roy Cohn.”

According to Deadline, “it’s a mentor-protégé story that chronicles the origins of an American dynasty. Packed with larger-than-life characters, it reveals the moral and human cost of a culture defined by winners and losers.”

Rounding out the lead cast are Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump and Martin Donovan as Donald Trump’s father, Fred.

Filming began in November 2023 and ended on January 28, 2024.

The 77th Cannes Film Festival takes place this year from May 14 to 25.
