“I said to his manager, ‘Listen, man, you’ve got to put this kid on TV or in a movie, he’s terrible at music, he’s not going to make it…’
The Hollywood star Johnny Depp (Johnny Depp) has left the cinema behind and today he is a member of the supergroup Hollywood Vampires along with Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry.
They have released two albums to date and have done many world tours.
But the man who signed records with Mötley Crüe and Guns N’ Roses believes Depp is “the worst guitarist he’s ever seen”.
THE Tom Zutot, famous A&R executive in a recent interview with the X5 Podcast revealed that – after attending one of the first auditions of the band Depp played in before he became a famous actor – he dismissed his musical talent.
“I thought Johnny Depp wasn’t going to be a rock star” he said. “You know, Johnny Depp auditioned for me twice. This is a funny story. I go to a rehearsal, the manager is a friend of mine, and he’s like, “I got this band from Jacksonville, they’re great.” I go to see them and they were horrible. Johnny Depp was the worst guitar player I had ever seen — but his charisma was insane, you see?’ he added.
“Then I look at his manager and say, ‘Listen, man, he can’t make it, but you gotta get this kid an agent and put him on TV or in a movie. This kid is a star. But the songs are crap and the musicianship is horrible,” he said.
A few months later, Johnny Depp managed to secure an agent and landed a role in the TV series 21 Jump Street.
And the rest is history…
