Roberto Carlos receives belated congratulations after his show was canceled

Two days after his birthday, celebrated on April 19, Roberto Carlos was received with a “Congratulations to you” by the audience at the show held this Sunday (21) in São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo.

“Thank you for this affection, for this love. I don’t even know what to say. It’s not often that we get on stage and receive an expression like this. I love you”, he said, before singing “Emotions”.

The show he would perform on his 83rd birthday, at the Mercado Livre Hall, in the Pacaembu stadium, west of the capital, was canceled by the São Paulo City Council after a veto by Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

The veto occurred due to proof of a lack of security at the site through a joint inspection by the Fire Department and Contru, a municipal body that certifies the safety of buildings.

The show, which would inaugurate the space, was scheduled for 3,000 people in the second basement of the arena. The site did not have a license issued by the Fire Department, who highlighted a series of irregularities in a report.

A fan wrote on the singer’s social media that she felt ill after the cancellation. She would celebrate her birthday at the show and bought a new outfit for the occasion. The fan said that the pressure rose and she cried a lot because she couldn’t watch the performance.

In 2023, the artist celebrated his 82nd birthday with a show in Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, the city where he was born, in the south of Espírito Santo, complete with cake and champagne on stage.

This year, even without the presence of the “king”, the city held a special program to celebrate the anniversary week. One of the attractions was the presence of a cover by Roberto Carlos. Robson Carlos received fans at the city’s Casa de Cultura and made two presentations. The week also featured performances by the Vozes de Cachoeiro choir and the Music Conservatory in honor of the singer.
