The names of the 16 singers and musical personalities who will be inducted in 2024 into the Hall of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced with them Ozzy Osbourne, Sir and Mary J. Bligh to be included in the category of performers.

Bands are in the same category Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang and Peter Frampton from Humble Pie.

The late singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett is among the artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unexpectedly, although his name was not on the list of nominees and was never nominated. But the Rock Hall committee was clearly in an emotional mood after his death seven months ago and decided to honor him through a separate, non-voting category for “musical excellence,” Variety reports.

The honors category is also the side door through which the panel brings in two other performers who have previously been nominated without ever being chosen by voters, Dionne Warwick and the MC5. The band had been nominated six times without ever being voted on.

In the “musical influence” category, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee announced the induction of the late Alexis Corner, Big Mama Thornton and John Mayall.

The Ehmet Ertegun Award will be awarded this year to American entrepreneur, television, music and film producer Susan de Paz.

Ozzy Osbourne is inducted for the second time this year. His group, Black Sabbath secured entry in 2006. Sometimes there is disagreement about whether singers who are already in the Hall of Fame, as members of groups, should be inducted as solo artists as well, ahead of other contenders. In any case, voters decided that Osborne’s post-Sabbath career established him as one of rock’s most important icons.
