Patti Smith replied to Taylor Swiftwhich mentions her name in the song “The Tortured Poets Department” (The Tortured Poets Department) from her new album of the same title.

In the song, Swift references Smith and poet Dylan Thomas in the verse: “I laughed in front of you and said, ‘You’re not Dylan Thomas, I’m not Patti Smith / This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel / We’re modern idiots.'”

The song is believed to refer to Taylor Swift’s short-lived relationship with 1975’s Matty Healy. Her comment about Smith and Dylan has been interpreted as a reference to the 1975 frontman and herself in the sense that the two should not take their themselves so seriously, according to Today.

Songwriter and poet Patti Smith reacted to the mention of her name in the song by posting on social media a photo of herself reading to Dylan Thomas. “That said, I was thrilled to be mentioned alongside the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Thanks Taylor,” he wrote.
