In 1993, when the soap opera “Renascer” was shown on Globo, Madonna performed her first show in Brazil. More than 30 years later, the artist returns to Rio de Janeiro for a show of historic magnitude and, coincidentally, the soap opera is airing again on Brazilian television — this time, a re-recording of the original version by Benedito Ruy Barbosa.
Internet users noticed the coincidence. On X (formerly Twitter), an excerpt from Globo’s programming went viral during the singer’s visit to the country for the first time. In it, the presenter of Jornal Nacional at the time mentions Madonna’s debut in Brazil, shortly afterwards another call invites the viewer to follow the last weeks of “Renascer”.
“Madonna and ‘Renascer’ together again”, wrote a user on the social network, who shared the video.
Before returning in 2024, Madonna had returned to Brazil two other times. In 2008, she brought the show “Sticky & Sweet” and, in 2012, she came with the “MDMA Tour”. This Saturday’s free show (4), which will take place on Copacabana beach, in Rio, promises to be bigger than all the previous ones.
“Renascer” was re-recorded and began airing on January 22, 2024 in the network’s nine o’clock slot, replacing “Terra e Paixão”. It was rewritten by Bruno Luperi based on his grandfather’s work.
