Teammates on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Paulo Soares and Antero Greco always made viewers laugh when, for some random reason, they laughed in the middle of a comment on the broadcaster’s most famous sports newspaper.
However, since June 2022, the duo has no longer run the attraction together. At the time, Antero fell ill and had to be hospitalized. It was then that he discovered a brain tumor.
This Saturday (10), Paulo Soares used space in journalist Juca Kfouri’s Uol column to write a farewell text for his longtime friend.
“Friends, unfortunately, my great friend and one of all of ours, Antero Greco, is in his final days. Brain tumor. He fought since June 22, but now there is nothing left to do”, he began in the text.
“He sleeps deeply, peacefully. He doesn’t wake up and doesn’t speak again. He is fed through a tube. Vital signs are still responding well. Family is present. Today I went with Alex Tseng, João Simões and Roberto Salim to say goodbye to him”, he says in another excerpt text.
According to Paulo Soares, known as Amigão, he still dreamed of running SportsCenter alongside Greco. “Our dream is over. Let’s send light and peace so that it will be a peaceful passage. A sweet, dear, fun and very intelligent friend.”
In July 2019, Paulo Soares spoke, in an interview with F5, about the partnership with his friend. “When I started performing with Antero, I knew there was this laughing thing and that there was no way to hold it back. Today everyone waits, keeps asking if there’s going to be a laugh”, he commented.
