THE George Clooney (George Clooney) is set to make his debut in Broadway with the theatrical adaptation of the six-time Academy Award-nominated 2005 drama film “Good Night, and Good Luck.”
In the black and white film o David Strathern (David Strathairn) played the pioneering journalist and CBS anchor Edward Murrow (Edward R Murrow), who as he was supported by his producer Fred W Friendly (Fred W Friendly) and by a great journalistic team, dared to challenge the anti-communist practices of Senator Joseph McCarthy (Joseph McCarthy) to the American people.
It was the star’s second directorial effort, having also chosen to play Murrow’s producer and partner, Fred Friendly, the Guardian reports.
The film won the best screenplay and best actor (David Strathern) awards at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, and was named the best film of the year by the American Film Institute (AFI).
“It is an honor, after all these years, to return to the stage, and especially to Broadway, the art form and venue that every actor aspires to,” Clooney said in a statement.
He signs the arrangement together with Grant Hislove (Grant Heslov), who for the screenplay of the 2005 film were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. This time he will play the famous journalist under the direction of the Tony Award winner David Cromer (David Cromer).
“Edward R. Murrow operated with a kind of moral purity that seems extremely rare in today’s media landscape,” the award-winning director said in a statement.
“There was an immediacy to those early live telecasts that today can only be effectively captured on stage, in front of a live audience.”
The premiere is expected in the spring of 2025 at the Shubert Theater in New York.
