Queen Camilla has pledged to no longer source fur for her wardrobe, acceding to a request by non-profit organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Buckingham Palace announced today.

It is Queen Camilla’s first stand against the fur industry, however the confirmation does not say she will not wear fur from the royal wardrobes.

The wife of King Charles is following in the footsteps of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who in 2019 decided not to wear clothes and accessories made of real fur.

PETA: “We drink to Camilla’s health”

Responding to the Queen’s decision, the nonprofit’s founder, Ingrid Newkirk, said: “PETA is doing toast to Queen Camilla with a glass of the best claret because she is true queen which ranks with the 95% of Britons who also refuse to wear animal fur, polls show.

It is right for the monarchy to reflect them British values recognizing that fur has no place in our society – and makes the Ministry of Defense’s use of real bear fur for royal guard hats even more absurd and unreal.”

PETA reports that to make fur clothing and accessories, animals are imprisoned in cages or caught in metal traps, electrocuted or otherwise painfully killed, and skinned.
