Renata Frisson, the Melão Woman, spent the day this Monday (20) answering calls from friends after the scare she had on Barra da Tijuca beach, west of Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday (19). The model had to be rescued by two lifeguards after being hit by a wave. “I’m used to the sea and I was on the edge getting my feet wet. Suddenly a wave hit me and the impact was so strong that I got dizzy. I fell and couldn’t get up,” she says.
Melão says he only didn’t drown because the firefighters were quick. “I think they realized that I was unresponsive and ran to help me. It was horrible”, she explains, who had to register the incident with the Fire Department. “I don’t wish this on anyone. A feeling of impotence, fear and despair. The lesson is: you don’t play with the sea”, she observes.
The episode was caught by a paparazzo. The photos went viral and caused surprise among internet users due to the fact that the Melão Woman was in the shallows, where she could stand. Some followers raised the possibility of a match with the photographer on social media. Renata denied having faked drowning to appear.
“People are crazy. How would I want to appear in such an embarrassing and dangerous situation? Absurd. I work with sensuality and drowning is not sexy at all. I’m still dizzy and have pain in my body because of the strength of the waves and I still have to explain to me. It’s the end”, he concludes.
