Maitê Proença considers “Dona Beja” one of her most striking works and this explains her curiosity regarding the HBO Max remake, scheduled to premiere in 2025. The actress was the protagonist of the original version and will now watch Grazi Massafera’s interpretation in the same paper.
She says she liked Grazi’s choice, from whom she received compliments. The two met recently and the subject revolved around Ana Jacinta, a woman who existed in real life and scandalized Brazilian society in the 19th century by founding a brothel and prostituting herself in front of everyone in the city of Araxá, Minas Gerais.
“We already talked and it was really cool. She [Grazi] He’s there working hard. I hope it comes out very good”, he says. Regarding the difference between the two versions, Maitê says that in his time, the plot was based on historical facts. “Now they took more of the myth, the mythical figure of Beja and are putting it into situations that didn’t happen in history.”
“Dona Beja” was shown on the now defunct TV Manchete 38 years ago, and had a strong sensual appeal with the scenes of the protagonist bathing naked in the waterfall, riding a horse and interacting with her clients. Maitê has no idea whether these scenes will be repeated. “Let’s see what happens. I’m curious.”
Despite having participated in the third and final season of Netflix’s “Bom Dia, Verônica”, the actress has been away from open television since the soap opera “Liberdade, Liberdade” (2016), on Globo. She has publicly complained about no longer receiving invitations from directors and authors, but today she says she is calmer and more selective.
“There are times when we take a break… I’ve done a lot of soap operas, I like them and I’m available, but it has to be cool, something challenging”, he warns.
