Dolly Parton has announced a new album, which will be accompanied by a documentary series about her family history. With Title “Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables” the album – produced by the legendary country singer’s cousin and touring band member Richie Owens – will be released on November 15.

“I can’t believe it’s been 60 years this month since I graduated from Sevier County High School and moved to Nashville to pursue my dreams” wrote the Dolly Parton on its official website.

“My uncle, Bill Owens was by my side for many years and helped me develop my music. I owe so much to him and all the family members past and present for inspiring me on this journey. It’s an honor to showcase our families’ musical heritage that is my DNA, the Smoky Mountains.”

The primary theme of “Smoky Mountain DNA” is family. Dolly Parton traces the ancestry of her father’s Parton family and her mother’s Owens family, from the United Kingdom in the 1600s to their home today in the Great Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee.

Some songs feature the voices of beloved family members alongside contemporary contributions from today’s generation. The recordings honor not only the musical heritage but also the strong family ties and cultural traditions that have shaped their lives.

The documentary series includes interviews with many family members, with a special focus on Reverend Jake Owens, Dolly Parton’s grandfather, who instilled in her and her relatives a deep respect for faith, a deep love of music and storytelling and strong enduring family values.
