Pedro Bial led 16 editions of Big Brother Brasil, on Globo, and, despite not really liking talking about favorites or favorite participants, the presenter ended up recognizing one edition as the “most spectacular” of his career leading the attraction. “BBB 10 was incredible. They had extraordinary characters and for me it was the best edition I presented.”
The presenter also highlighted the champion of that edition: Marcelo Dourado. “He was a very controversial figure, because he spoke in the name of honor, of manhood. He was a little scary, with a speech more associated with [Ã extrema-direita]and he won”, he said in an interview with the Mamilos podcast.
Bial also spoke about how he was called to run the reality show in 2002. “The format was disputed by Globo and SBT. SBT didn’t pay and aired A Casa dos Artistas, which was a hit. And then the empire counterattacked” , he commented. “Globo bought the format and needed someone to lead that presentation, someone who knew how to do live television and who could also talk to people confined”, he explained.
He said that no one at the network believed in the attraction, much less that it would become a phenomenon on Brazilian television. “I swear. Nobody believed it was going to be this phenomenon. I heard from the management in 2002: ‘let’s do the second edition soon to squeeze the pulp out of this orange’.”
Bial, who presents Linha Direta and Conversa com Bial said that it was only three years later that his record dropped. “I only realized that I was experiencing this phenomenon in BBB 5, which Jean Wyllys won”, he concluded.
