The composer, percussionist, visual artist and poet Manos Tsagaris is the new president of the Academy of Arts, Berlin, replacing Janine Meeraffel, who completed the maximum nine years in the post.

The Dusseldorf born Manos Tsagarisis considered one of the most important representatives of experimental musical theater, with internationally recognized works that have been presented on important stages and festivals.

Since 2016 he has directed together with Daniel Ott the Munich Biennale for the New Music Theater, since 2009 he is professor of composition at the University of Music Carl Maria von Weber of Dresden and a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts, where he has been the Director of the Music Department since 2011.

Manos Tsagaris is still involved in research in the field of stage anthropology and in 2011 he founded the International Institute for Artistic Research (iike.de). He has been honored with many awards, including the Mauricio Kagel Music Prize, from the Arts Institute of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Together with Mr. Tsagaris, the 62nd General Assembly of Members elected the architect, architecture journalist, editorial director of the ARCH+ magazine for Architecture and Urbanism and curator of exhibitions Ann-Lin Ngo to the position of vice president of the Academy.

The term of office of the president and vice-president of the Academy is three years and may be renewed up to two times.
