In an interview with Le M Magazine from the newspaper Le Monde, she said that she prefers to live in an apartment instead of a palace that her entire fortune could buy. “I know I’m privileged, but as you can see, I don’t live in a mansion. We’re not painting collectors and I don’t wear jewelry,” she said.
The apartment is located in a two-story building with large windows in the Parisian neighborhood of Saint James, in the city of Neuilly-sur-Seine.
It was in 2018 that Françoise entered the Forbes list. At the time, she boasted assets of around R$213 billion. But L’Oréal’s shares soared, which caused her fortune to increase even more.
In her leisure time, the businesswoman avoids going out and social events and prefers to stay at home playing her piano and writing. She has already produced works on the Bible and the genealogy of the Greek gods.
Her mother, Liliane (1922-2017), was the heiress of Eugène Schueller, who founded L’Oréal in 1909 after discovering an innovative hair dye.
During her childhood, Françoise was withdrawn from school and educated at home. Her parents were afraid that the girl would be kidnapped due to her wealth.
Since she was little, the heiress clashed with her mother, who liked to flaunt her wealth. Françoise had a more introspective and reclusive way. But she always knew how to understand those who approached her out of interest.
“If someone wanted to marry me just because I had money, I would have known. I waited a long time for my husband and I know it wasn’t the money that attracted him: we’ve known each other since we were in diapers,” she told Le M Magazine.
