Wanessa Camargo, 41, was a famous girl in the 2000s, and that means she certainly suffered psychological pressure to be thin. The singer said that she developed eating disorders throughout her career and the consequences still affect her today.
“There was pressure from the market with teenage singers, they demanded the delivery of a perfect body. Unfortunately, I went that way”, said Wanessa in an interview with the newspaper Extra. “Bulimia left scars on me. I have reflux, for example. I was hurting my throat, and this could forever harm my singing, which is what I love doing most”, she said.
The singer said that the warning came during the therapy sessions, in addition to having changed her behavior after pregnancy: “With my first pregnancy, I had another change of thought: I’m going to want to lose those kilos soon or be healthy enough to breastfeed my son and provide all the nutrients he needs? Of course it was the second option.”
Wanessa said that today she is cured, but she still remains vigilant with her diet: “I’m recovered, but it took many years of struggle. With eating disorders you have to be vigilant for the rest of your life. Becoming vegan helped me too. It changed my relationship with food. I eat much more, I am perfectly healthy and live in balance.”
