Matthew McConaughey says closed doors in Hollywood almost led him to change careers

by

Tired of starring in romantic comedies in the 2000s, Matthew McConaughey decided to take a break from his career for two years. What he didn’t imagine was that his voluntary departure would bring him problems with Hollywood. In a recent interview, the actor said he came across “several closed doors” when he decided to return to the market.

I usually go a different route when I feel like Hollywood wants me to follow the pattern,” he told fellow actor Glen Powell in the Interview Magazine interview. “When I had my romantic comedy years, there was a limit to that, and those movies were solid hits. for me. But I wanted to try other things. Of course I wasn’t getting those roles, so I had to leave Hollywood for two years,” he explained.

The actor then recalled that he even talked to his wife, top model Camila Alves, about finding a “new vocation”. “I said I was going to become a high school teacher or study to be a conductor,” he recalled. “It was scary and I thought, ‘I’m out of Hollywood. I’m out of my line.’ The line that Hollywood said I should follow, and Hollywood said, ‘Well, f–k you, man, you should have stayed in your line,'” he said.

Finally, Matthew McConaughey spoke about the feeling of helplessness he experienced on that occasion: “The days were long, the feeling of insignificance. But I convinced myself that this was what I needed to have done.”
