Fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu will showcase his craft in a new exhibition entitled ‘Imaginary Conversations’, inspired by the late, elegant Duchess of Devonshire, Deborah.

The exhibition is centered around the designer’s redesigned SS24 collection and as the exhibition title suggests is a fictional dialogue between the Duchess and the designer.

Duchess Deborah’s accessories and other items from her wardrobe, for example, are presented with creations from Erdem’s SS24 collection. The aim is to show visitors that “the past informs the present in creating a contemporary fashion collection,” said the designer.

The exhibition provides insight into Erdem Moralioglu’s creative process, from the initial thrill of discovery while delving into the Chatsworth archives, to the art and techniques of designing new clothes, the exhibition description says.

Historic prints and drawings, textiles, jewelery and photographs, with Deborah’s eclectic eye on display in the guest bedrooms of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, England, where the Duchess moved with her husband in 1959.

Born the youngest of the famous six Midford sisters, she married Andrew Cavendish, the future Duke of Devonshire, in 1941, with the couple remaining together until his death in 2004. On her arrival at the residence she set about raising income for the maintaining the residence through guided tours for the public and a revolutionary new farm shop, which sold produce grown on the estate. She was an extremely complex character, both duchess and provincial, connoisseur of art and an impeccable hostess, according to the designer.
