Australian director, screenwriter and producer Peter Weir will also receive an honorary Golden Lion
The iconic American actress Sigourney Weaver will be honored with Golden Lion for her entire career in 81st Venice International Film Festival.
“An actress of Sigourney Weaver’s caliber has few rivals,” said the Festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera.
The beloved star has made an indelible mark on cinema, particularly through her iconic roles in two groundbreaking sci-fi franchises: the “Alien” series, which spans four films, and “Avatar,” released in 2009 and 2022.
Despite the fact that to date, her acting talent has not won her an Oscar, it has earned her three nominations. In 1987 for “Aliens» and in 1989 for the productions “Gorillas in the Mist” and “Working Girl”.
“Receiving this award is a privilege I share with all the directors and collaborators I have worked with over the years. I proudly accept this award to honor everyone who helped make these films happen,” said the famous actress in a statement, taking over from last year’s winners, Italian director Liliana Cavani and the actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai.
As already announced, the award-winning French actress Isabelle Hyper will be the chair of the jury of the competition section and the Australian director, screenwriter and producer Peter Weir will also receive an honorary Golden Lion.
The full schedule will be announced on July 23, it said Deadline.
The 81st Venice Film Festival will be held this year from August 28th to September 7th.
