Kate Winslet has been found at the Munich International Film Festival ahead of the European premiere of her film ‘Lee’ and spoke to a packed audience about starring in and producing the film, which is inspired by the life of war photojournalist Lee Miller.

“We chose to delay the release of the film because of the strike and because I wanted to be able to talk about the real, true labor of love it was for me and my co-producer Kate Solomon to make this film.” said the award winning actress on stage when receiving the award CineMerit.

“It’s hard to make movies as a woman and it’s hard to make movies about women. I hope that with this film people will be more open-minded and try to absorb stories of important historical figures like the formidable Lee.”

It is noted that Lee Miller was a sought-after model in the 1940s before becoming a famous photojournalist and war correspondent during World War II.

As Deadline reports, the Munich premiere had added resonance given that Miller had been photographed in Hitler’s bathtub at his home in the German city shortly after his release and death.

“Keeping the right balance throughout the film was something we were constantly mindful of, not leading the audience too quickly into the heart of darkness” continued the star, who revealed that the most difficult scenes were in Dachau.

The film is directed by Ellen Kouras and stars Marion Cotillard, Josh O’Connor, Andy Samberg, Jude Law and Enrique Arce alongside Winslet.

“It was so important to us to make sure we weren’t mimicking images of the camps that have been shot so well by other directors in the past. We really had to make sure we were only seeing it through Lee’s eyes.” completed.
