THE Alexandra Paschalidou, the journalist with a long career in Sweden where she grew up always remains connected to Greece. Besides, he has also worked here for many years on television.
And she made sure to create ties that bring her every year to her country of origin, which for her is a little paradise. Except this year turned out to be a bit adventurous.

The little doll house he has bought years ago in Patmos she took damages and she herself has spent these weeks of her vacation with workers and repairs. Does he regret it? Day after day, as she writes herself, but she wouldn’t change it for anything.

“My little paradise has been bothering me for the past two weeks. I chased down electricians, plumbers, carpenters when things broke or stopped working as if they too needed a break. It made me wonder why I bought this little house on an island I didn’t even know. But it was instant love from the first day I stepped on my flip flops on Patmos and I believe in the written word and fate and the signs that show you how it’s going to be, so i did it.

I regret it every other day but then I fall asleep with the sea in my ears and the breeze caressing my soul. I wake up and the cats outside my door are lining up for breakfast. Then I work on whatever is broken, dried out or damaged until I go swimming and suddenly all the problems that seemed unsolvable disappear. Nothing matters.

It’s the little simple things in life that count and matter. The kindness of strangers from all over the world who always lend a helping hand. The new friends you meet invite you into their homes and treat you like a lost relative. The neighbor who offers you coffee while you’re on the phone trying to solve another mess. The worker who makes you cry when he shares his heartbreaking love story.

The woman who left Sweden and became a nun in the monastery. The silence. The landscape of the island that looks like a butterfly and always surprises you with new aspects. The freedom to never lock your windows, doors and bikes. The happiness of seeing your daughter love this place and its people.

My reel can’t capture any of that. Sorry. We are now packing for Athens and looking forward to returning soon.
You must visit Patmos. Preferably May, June or September, October if you really want to enjoy it.”
