Presenter Rodrigo Faro has been criticized on social media after excerpts from his participation in the Marçal Talks podcast, by São Paulo mayoral candidate Pablo Marçal, went viral.

On the show, he said he did not want to enroll his two daughters, aged 12 and 15, in a school that trains leaders to teach them about humility. However, the school where the girls study is Mackenzie, whose tuition fees are around R$4,000. When contacted, Faro declined to comment.

“People say: ‘Oh, put your children in a school that trains leaders’. I said: ‘No, no way’. What will the conversation be? ‘What helicopter does your father have? What boat does your father have?'” Faro began in his explanation.

“No, I want them in a school where, in the same classroom, there are children with scholarships, children of school employees. Because they are all equal. So, it is this type of teaching. And the main one: humility”, said the presenter.

He also said that the oldest is ashamed to say that she is his heir and that she uses her mother’s surname, Viel. “She was saying: ‘Dad, I don’t want to achieve things because I’m your daughter, I want to achieve things because of my talent, because of what I learned’. I said: ‘Exactly'”, the presenter added in his explanation.

On social media, several pages and profiles echoed the comment, and Faro received criticism. “R$4,000 to spend time with people from all social classes?”, one follower joked. “Who started this new trend of rich people signaling virtue?”, asked another. “This guy is completely out of touch with reality,” said another.
