by

“Embargo” in Russia for the invasion of Ukraine is proclaimed (and) by film studios.

Disney, Warner Bros. and Sony have announced that they will not be showing their films in Russian cinemas. Disney has said that the screening of Pixar’s upcoming film, Turning Red, has been postponed in Russia, citing “the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis.”

“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are suspending theatrical release in Russia, including Pixar’s upcoming Turning Red,” the Walt Disney Company said in a statement Monday. The management of the company will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation, it is stressed.

Warner Bros. For its part, it has suspended the screening of the long-awaited movie The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, while Sony will not screen its latest movie, Morbius starring Jared Leto.

“We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves,” the company said in a statement. “We hope for a speedy and peaceful resolution of this tragedy.”

Mastercard Inc. announced late Monday that it had excluded many Russian financial institutions from its payment network following sanctions imposed on Moscow over the Russian military’s invasion of Ukraine.

Visa followed in a statement, saying it is taking steps to ensure compliance with the sanctions and will also comply with any additional sanctions that may apply.

Moscow calls the action of its armed forces in Ukraine a “special operation”.
