Ever since Shiloh, 18, the daughter of Angelina Jolie, 49, and Brad Pitt, 60, went to court to have her father’s surname removed, the issue has been the talk of the town. Last week, the story was in the news again when a legal notice about the matter appeared in the pages of the Los Angeles Times.

In the wake of the backlash, Shiloh’s attorney, Peter Levine, has come forward to explain why the matter needed to be made public. “The media needs to be more careful in their reporting,” he complained. “Especially when covering a young adult who made an independent and meaningful decision after painful events, and is simply following the legal process.”

“Shiloh Jolie did not place an ‘advert’ advertising any name change, and any media reports that say so are incorrect,” he said. “As Shiloh’s attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because California law requires that of anyone seeking to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as required.”

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt is changing her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The young woman filed the petition on her 18th birthday in May of this year. According to Entertainment Tonight, she hired and paid for her own lawyer.

According to sources from People magazine, Brad Pitt has virtually no contact with his adult children, although he still visits his youngest children after his separation from Angelina Jolie in 2016. In addition to Shiloh, the former couple has Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.

Despite this, the actor was reportedly upset with his daughter’s decision.
