Actress Elisa Annenberg-Paglia, 21, daughter of journalists Sandra Annenberg and Ernesto Paglia, spoke out after suffering “hate” on the internet for her São Paulo accent.

In a video published last Tuesday (30) on Tiktok, Elisa explained that she is of Italian descent and therefore speaks with the heavy accent typical of the capital of São Paulo.

“Brazil was built largely by immigrants, who together contributed to the formation of a plural culture,” said the actress, who lives in New York.

Elisa, who is the only daughter of the Globo journalist couple, recalled her origins and mentioned the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration.

“My grandfather immigrated from Italy and turned to build a future. This year, we celebrate 150 years of Italian immigration to Brazil, a community that was essential in talking about the construction and evolution of the city of São Paulo,” said the actress.

“Pointing fingers, making fun and making fun of others does nothing but increase the division between our people, when all we need is more unity. Enough with linguistic prejudice, of thinking that you know everything about a person just by the way they speak,” concluded Elisa.
